Walmer Castle Broad Walk in 1916
and 2005
The original gardens at Walmer Castle were
designed, landscaped and planted in the 1800s by Lady Hester
Stanhope, the energetic and eccentric niece of William Pitt
the Younger who, as Lord Warden, lived in the Castle.
She later gained fame for touring the Middle
East, where - following the death of her uncle - she eventually
lived and died .
