It is believed that the picture was taken from the edge of Hawkshill. The track in the foreground could be on the line of today's track up onto the Freedown from the junction of Liverpool Road and Grams Road. The church in the distance is St Mary's. Liverpool Road runs from the bottom left corner to the middle right of the picture and Grams Road is thought to be the lane from the middle left to the centre of the view.
