This bronze sculpture at the entrance to Deal Pier is by west country sculptor Jon Buck. His design, entitled "Embracing the Sea" and representing Deal's strong maritime links, was selected from proposals by several other artists in 1997. Following preparation of the full-size figure by Mr Buck in his Bath workshop, the 2¾-ton bronze was cast at a foundry in Chalford, Gloucestershire.
